Population Served
The children served by SCOPE are low-income youth whose families cannot afford to provide them with a summer camp experience. Through SCOPE, children escape from the urban setting to secure environments which foster positive self-esteem, strong self-confidence, and appropriate social skills. Summer camp affords these children the opportunity to leave the boredom, pollution, and potential dangers of a city summer and instead experience a supervised, caring community surrounded by positive adult role models.
In order to participate in SCOPE campers must:
- be 7-16 years old
- meet family income eligibility requirements established by the United States Department of Agriculture for free or reduced-price school lunch
- complete an application essay expressing their desire and motivation to go to resident camp
- be enrolled in a public school
- agree to comply with the registration procedures and rules and regulations of the chosen camp

Dear Sponsor,
First off I'd like to thank you for supporting camp another year, for helping us campers learn life lessons, learn new skills, and most importantly, learn to make the right choices and right friends. I admit, I am not that shy, but this camp helps me to reach out to others, as it did to me. Our counselors don’t just take us on fun activities, they build our self esteem, help us to reach out and try new things. You help us and thousands of other kids to have fun. This camp is like a big cookie. You throw in some great counselors and divisions, with a little love, and you have one great recipe! And that’s the way the cookie crumbles!
THANK YOU!
Dear Sponsor,
Hello, my name is Ximena and I’m 13 years old. Thank you so much for sponsoring our camp and helping every kid have fun. As a result from your help I have had the chance to change as a person and not only me but every other kid at camp. For example, when I first came to camp and I was a prep I was really shy and now that I’m an Upper Intern I’m very bold and outgoing. Other than just overcoming my shyness I have also learned how to work as a team and listen. Camp has also helped me socialize and interact with other people from different backgrounds and has helped me meet friend that I will still keep in touch with outside of camp. The counselors are also so nice and kind. Thank you so much.
Sincerely, Ximena
